Beckham praises ‘father figure’ Fergie following MLS All-star defeat to United

David Beckham has paid tribute to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for believing him at the start of his career.

The LA Galaxy midfielder came through the United ranks as a youngster, and went on to win the Premier League six times, the FA Cup twice and the Champions League in 1999.

Beckham, who played for the MLS All-Stars in the 4-0 defeat to United on Wednesday, went on to hail his former boss as a “father figure” to him.

“I had many years, many successful years playing under Sir Alex Ferguson,” Beckham said.

“I wouldn’t be in the position I am today if it wasn’t for him, because he gave me a chance when I was 16, 17 years old and he had the faith to give youngsters a chance. I owe him

Milan say no to Fab

AC Milan say they do not have the funds to pursue a deal for Cesc Fabregas and have pulled out of the running.

Barcelona are leading the chase to sign Fabregas and are locked in talks with Arsenal in an attempt to agree a fee but AC Milan have also been linked with a swoop.

However if Fabregas is to leave the Emirates Stadium he will only be interested in a move to Barca, while Milan say they would not have the funds to finalise a deal in any case.

“Compete with Barcelona for (Cesc) Fabregas?” Milan CEO Adriano Galliani told Sky Sports Italia. “Fabregas is an Arsenal player and would have an exorbitant cost.

Browns: T.J. Ward, Joe Haden looking forward to returning, playing in new defense (with video)

If T.J. Ward and Joe Haden are typical of the rest of the NFL, all this hand-wringing over the lockout and CBA negotiations was secondary to the more important matter of starting training camp and playing football.

Ward, a safety, and Haden, a cornerback, were among about a dozen players working out Tuesday at the Browns’ training facility in Berea.

Fans’ Forum next Wednesday

A bumper Fans’ Forum is being lined for Weds August 3rd at 7pm in the Rook Inn.

As well as a chance to listen to the directors’ feedback on the owner scheme and season ticket sales in the quarterly forum, there will also be an opportunity to discuss activity on the pitch too.

First team boss Steve King will be coming along, as will Ladies boss Jacquie Agnew and hopefully Under 18 manager Simon Wormull (tbc).

There is much to talk about with the new season around the corner, so if you’re coming, get there early!
