Carlos Tevez will “respect” Manchester City if he fails to secure his desired move away from the club this summer, according to his agent Kia Joorabchian.

Tevez saw a proposed move to Corinthians fall through on Wednesday, with City claiming the Brazilian club had failed to provide the required bank guarantees on the 40million fee.

Tigers interested in Padres’ Aaron Harang or not?

There are two tidbits about San Diego Padres pitcher Aaron Harang and the Detroit Tigers out there today … and they couldn’t be much more different.

First, foxsports.com writer and Free Press alum Jon Paul Morosi tweeted: “Spoke with someone today who expressed doubt that the #Tigers would end up acquiring Aaron Harang.”

Shortly thereafter, ESPN contributor and former MLB general manager Jim Bowden tweeted: “Tigers front-runner to get Harang from Padres for back of rotation.”

So make what you want of that. For what it’s worth, Harang, 33, is 8-2 with a 3.29 ERA this season. He has a 4.26 ERA in a career that dates to 2002.

Given makes Villa switch

Tevez deal not done – Corinthians Forget about Sneijder – Ferguson Gervinho vows to fire with Gunners Allen signs new Swans deal Vieira backs City life after Tevez Gooch backs Strauss to shine Clarke hoping Ryder Cup door opens Westwood given Clarke major backing RFL stand by 14-team plan

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Shay Given from Manchester City as manager Alex McLeish completes his first signing since taking over at Villa Park.

Given, 35, is the Republic of Ireland’s most capped player and has signed a five-year-deal with the Midlands club and goes straight into the squad for their next friendly, against Walsall on Thursday.

The former Blackburn and Newcastle keeper moved to City in 2009 for 7million but found first-team opportunities limited last season after England’s Joe Hart became Roberto Mancini’s preferred option.

Given started his career as a youngster at Celtic and had been heavily linked with a summer move to Parkhead, but McLeish has now secured the veteran’s signature to replace the outgoing Brad Friedel, who joined Tottenham at the start of the month.

Given told Villa’s official website he cannot wait to get started, saying: “Aston Villa is a huge football club and I’m really excited to be joining.

MSU to wear special football uniforms vs. Michigan

Michigan State will have a unique look when it hosts Michigan on Oct. 15 at Spartan Stadium.

The Spartans are one of nine Nike-affiliated college football teams scheduled to wear alternate uniforms designed by the company for one game this season. They’ll join Army, Boise State, Georgia, Louisiana State, Navy, Ohio State, Oregon, and Stanford.

Nike touts its Pro Combat uniforms as being technologically advanced, too: “The redesigned base layer facilitates the uniforms overall innovation, delivering the ultimate in lightweight protection for maximum speed,” it said in a news release. “Strategically placed seams, pads and cooling zones also help minimize distraction and optimize protective coverage.”

There was no immediate word on the design of MSU’s alternate uniform.
