Shane Jennings has been named as David Wallace’s injury replacement for Ireland ahead of the World Cup.
The Munster flanker suffered a serious knee injury in his side’s 20-9 loss to England on Saturday and will now miss the competition in New Zealand.
Ireland also have a number of other injury concerns with hooker Jerry Flannery struggling with a shin complaint while back-row duo Stephen Ferris and Jamie Heaslip have picked up knocks but are expected to be fit for the sport’s showpiece event.
However, Jennings’ Leinster team-mate Cian Healy could miss Ireland’s first match against the USA after suffering an injured eye socket and an IRFU statement confirmed that the the prop will fly out separately to his team-mates.
“Medical advice has dictated that Healy’s departure date for the tournament has been put back by four days, when he will then fly out to join up with the rest of the squad in New Zealand,” read an IRFU statement.
“The injury could rule Healy out of Ireland’s first game in the tournament against the USA.”
