Fast bowler Steffan Jones has turned down a new contract offer from Derbyshire and will leave cricket after this season.
The 37-year-old former Somerset, Northants, Kent and Wales player was offered the chance of a three-year player/coach deal to stay on at the County Ground.
However, Jones will instead leave cricket at the end of the current campaign and take up a teaching post at Wellington School which is close to his family home in Somerset.
“I am very grateful for the offer made by Derbyshire,” said Jones. “I know they did everything they could to persuade me to stay.
“But the opportunity of being head of cricket at a prestigious school and returning back to my family home is too good for me to miss.
“Both my spells with Derbyshire have been unforgettable and I will of course be giving my all for the remainder of the current campaign, starting with our massive derby against Nottinghamshire on Friday.
“We have a team capable of achieving this year and it would be great to bow out on a high with a successful conclusion to the season.”
