Mancini has Gunners in his sights

Roberto Mancini watched Manchester City demolish Sunderland 5-0 and then targeted a second-placed finish for his side.

The City chief was ‘surprised’ but delighted after watching his side move above Chelsea into third position, after goals from Adam Johnson, a Carlos Tevez penalty, David Silva, Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure, secured an emphatic win at Eastlands on Sunday afternoon.

Mancini feels rivals Manchester United are certainties to win the league title, but he has Arsene Wenger’s second-placed Gunners firmly in his sights between now and the end of the season.

“We can be runners-up. Why not?” said Mancini.

“I am very happy because we got three points, moved above Chelsea and are now just three points behind Arsenal.

“It’s true they both have a game in hand, but this was a good day for us.

“This was an important weekend for us, too – a big weekend will be when we win something – but it was important, nonetheless. I was surprised we won by five goals but I am not complaining!”
