Free professional development! The course has been specifically designed for people working in sport, and coaches in particular. It is two hours long and free to attend. Attendees don’t need any previous knowledge of mental health.
Coaches operating at any level, from community / grassroots to elite, will benefit from the course. Other people working in sport, such as FA County staff, Sports Development Officers, County Sports Partnership employees, governing body Equality Officers and NHS sports staff should also benefit from attending.
Although the project has been supported by the Football Association, it does not focus specifically on football, and is suitable for attendees from all sports.
The course includes:
- What is mental health? Different diagnoses and their symptoms, with examples from sport
- Physical impacts of mental health problems
- Mental benefits of exercise
- Mental health in the context of the Four Corners coaching framework – practical guidance for delivering coaching
- Practical communication tips
- Legal requirements of clubs
- Signposting to other sources of help and information
The training is delivered by Time to Change, a project by leading mental health charities Mind and Rethink. All trainees will receive a certificate of attendance.
