Premier League champions Manchester United are the most valuable sports franchise in the world according to Forbes magazine’s annual list of the world’s 50.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side beat the Cowboys and Yankees to first with an estimated value of $1.86 billion (£1.16 billion). At £908 million, Real Madrid are the second most valuable football club, but perhaps more pertinently United’s position at the peak of world sport is even more remarkable given that all of the NFL’s 32 teams make it into the top 50.
Forbes Top Five: Manchester United (estimated value £1.16bn)
Dallas Cowboys (£1.13bn)
New York Yankees (£1.06bn)
Washington Redskins (£970m)
Real Madrid (£908m)
