Laois hurling manager Brendan Fennelly has resigned. He becomes the fourth inter-county manager to quit in recent weeks.
His decision comes after a 34 point mauling at the hands of Cork in last month’s championship clash.
Cork were subsequently thrashed by Galway in the play-offs last weekend.
Laois had a respectable showing in the National League, finiising third in Division 2, but the defeat to Cork sounded the manager’s death knell.
Fennelly joins a long and growing list of managers to prematurely leave the dug-out this summer.
Already Offaly’s Joe Dooley, Wexford’s Colm Bonnar and Clare’s Ger O’Loughlin all quit before they were pushed.
